Season 2025
The 2025 season expanded the scope of our work, deepening the questions that emerged during the first year of research. Returning to Negash allowed us to look more closely at the architectural and spatial dynamics of the mosque complex, while also exploring how local memory practices shape the perception of the sacred landscape. This season brought the project into a more detailed, more layered understanding of the settlement.
A season of deepening perspectives and expanding the scale of inquiry.
Building on the foundations laid in 2024, the team approached the landscape with a more focused set of questions. Architectural documentation of the mosque and adjacent structures revealed details that had not been recorded before, offering new insight into the development of the site. At the same time, ethnographic work traced how stories, rituals and everyday practices continue to animate the landscape, giving form to the ways in which the past is remembered and lived.
Test excavations in selected areas provided a first glimpse into the stratigraphy of the site, confirming the potential for further archaeological investigation. The interplay between material traces and contemporary narratives became increasingly clear, showing how historical layers and present‑day uses intersect in the lived experience of the village. The 2025 season thus strengthened the interdisciplinary character of the project and opened new directions for future research.
