Archaeooriental Studies combine archaeological, cognitive and textological methods and theories with field research and the use of new technologies. Interdisciplinary research allows for the reconstruction of various aspects of ancient cultures and also contributes to a deeper understanding of mankind within cultural, social and environmental entanglements.

Power

The axis of Archaeo-Oriental Studies is conceptualising power in ancient and contemporary non-European cultures. The aim of the project is to investigate how the concept of power was constructed in selected areas of ancient and modern cultures. The project involves ways power has been understood and functioned in African and Asian countries.

Initial research is focused on areas which are crucial in the study of human history, where scholars affiliated with UW are already present (e.g., Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Armenia); as cooperation develops, the scope is going to be extended.
