We are proud to inform that one of the Archaeo-Oriental Studies team members, Dr. Joanna Ciesielska (WO UW) received a New Ideas grant (https://inicjatywadoskonalosci.uw.edu.pl/dzialania/ni/3a-pob4/).
On the verge of greatness: The founders of the kingdom of Alwa:The goal of the project is the investigation of the foundation of the kingdom of Alwa (modern Sudan) in the sixth century CE based on isotopic analysis of migration patterns and population dynamics in its capital Soba. The skeletal remains of individuals who may be considered local elites will be subjected to the isotopic examination of diet and mobility. The results will shed light on the people who established one of the most powerful kingdoms on the Nile, which ruled vast expanse of modern Sudan for almost a thousand years.
Congratulations!
